Criteria

The Caballeros de Yuma is offering a total of five (5) - $1,500.00 scholarships to senior high school students graduating from Antelope, Kofa, Cibola, Yuma and San Luis High Schools.  One (1) scholarship will be presented to a senior student at each high school.

The successful applicants for the Caballeros de Yuma Memorial Scholarships will possess the following:

• Citizen of the USA

• GPA of 3.0 or higher

• Community involvement or high school extracurricular activities will be considered.

• Will attend an accredited post-secondary educational institution of choice in Arizona, and must be a full time student (at least 12 semester hours).

 The applicant instructions are as follows:

• Complete application form.

• Submit one page typed autobiography.

• Include a copy of your high school transcript or a verification of your GPA to date.

• Provide 3 letters of recommendation.

Scholarship applicants may be contacted by telephone or asked to participate in an interview conducted by the Scholarship Committee.  The purpose of the contact is to answer any questions that may arise after review of applications.  Follow-up notification will be made to applicants.

Scholarship Winners:  The Caballeros de Yuma will not award the scholarship money directly to the student but will set up an account in the recipient's name at the Foundation of an accredited post-secondary educational institution of choice in Arizona and may be used for tuition, books and/or lab fees.  The Caballeros will send the money for the scholarship to the University/College by June 30, 2008.

DEADLINE:  Applications must be received in the office of the Caballeros de Yuma not later than March 28, 2008 – 3:00 p.m.

• One (1) scholarship of $1,500.00/each will be awarded to a qualifying student at each of the following Arizona universities: University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University-Flagstaff and Northern Arizona University-Yuma.
• Two (2) scholarships of $750 will be awarded to qualifying students at Arizona Western College.
• The University Scholarships are to be given to continuing students (must have completed at least 30 semester hours- Junior or Senior) at the universities listed above.
• Must be a full time student (at least 12 semester hours).
• Current GPA of at least a 3.0 (must provide a university transcript).
• Must be a Citizen of the USA.
• Must be a Yuma County High School graduate.
• Community involvement or university extracurricular activities will be considered.
• We will take into account the fact that the student may or may not be working while attending college.
• We will ask for a disclosure of other scholarships the applicant is receiving.
• We will ask for a disclosure of family income for our use only.
• We will not award the scholarship money directly to the student but will set up an account in the recipient’s name at the Foundation of the University (must be used for tuition, books and/or lab fees.)
• We would like each University to screen the applicants and give us their top five (5) applicants.  We will then pick the recipient.
• The Caballeros will send the money for the scholarship to the University by June 30, 2008.
• DEADLINE:  Applications must be received in the office of the Caballeros de Yuma not later than

  March 28, 2008 – 3:00 p.m.

• The scholarships will be awarded by April 30, 2008.
